The former chief fire officer for Grampian is to claim at an employment tribunal that he was the victim of age discrimination.

David Dalziel, 62, held the Grampian post for eight years until it was amalgamated into a single service.

He applied to become the chief fire officer of the new Scotland-wide service and a number of other senior posts but was not appointed.

He lodged a claim of unfair dismissal due to age discrimination.

It will be considered by an employment tribunal which is due to begin in Aberdeen on Monday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it would be represented at the hearing.
