Older contractors working in a variety of industries across the UK could be among those encouraged by the recent comments of one of the country's leading recruitment industry bodies.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has claimed that UK recruiters can provide a vital service for older workers who are looking for both contract and permanent placements.

It comes as the REC was one of the guest speakers at yesterday's (January 25th) Daily Telegraph seminar on employment opportunities and career advice for the over 50s.

Tom Hadley, the REC's director of policy and Professional Services, said: "The downturn has had a huge impact on older workers, many of whom have not had to actively look for work for decades.

"The world of work is constantly evolving and recruiters will continue to provide an important outlet for accessing permanent jobs as well as flexible options such as contract work and interim management."
